Support School Art: Choose A Kids Tag Art Vanity Tag Today

KTA AoD

Support art in schools by purchasing a Kids Tag Art vanity tag for your front car bumper this year.  With proceeds going to classroom arts, it’s a “win-win” states Joe Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County and honorary chairman for Kids Tag Art, a countywide art design contest and fundraising project exclusively for fifth graders. “This time of year, teachers and students can’t wait to learn who are this year’s award-winning designs! This year’s artwork is the best yet, and getting better every year.”

As in years past, this year’s Awards of Distinction recipients represent two students from each participating school across Polk County, which encompasses 148 creative designs from 74 public, private, and charter schools. These young artists’ tag art is now being offered for sale online, at www.PolkTaxes.com. Anyone can order tags for their cars, and you can order tags from a prior year as well. The public sale of these tags continues throughout the school year.

Award of Distinction honorees, finalists for other special awards are recognized during the school year.  Special sponsored awards include Heart Smart Art, Home Sweet Home, and the Legoland Build Your Imagination award.  Other special awards are surprises as they are announced at fifth-grade graduation. These include the Home Sweet Home and Tax Collector’s Choice awards. The special awards are hosted separately throughout the year, and the students who place are announced at that time. Please review the Kids Tag Art Event Calendar for dates and times of these awards at www.PolkTaxes.com.

Again this year, Southern Homes of Polk County is the major sponsor for the project and a major contributor to arts-education in Polk County.  “We at Southern Homes know creativity is critical in business and for our community. Projects like Kids Tag Art help to introduce and encourage creative thought. Southern Homes is excited about being part of this program,” states Greg Masters, President of Southern Homes.  To date, the project has raised over $250,000 for Polk County arts education, all of which goes to enhance the teaching resources in the classroom.

Recipients of the Awards of Distinction were honored at an awards ceremony in March 2016.  These designs become part of the Kids Tag Art traveling exhibit, which showcases the beautiful art throughout the remainder of the school year.  For dates and locations of the traveling exhibit, please refer to the KTA Event Calendar located at www.PolkTaxes.com.

In addition to major sponsor Southern Homes of Polk County, new sponsors this year include The Ledger and Hall Communications. Other sponsors include founding sponsor Douglass Screen Printers, LEGOLAND Florida, Grasslands and Woodbridge, MidFlorida, Alphagraphics, Florida Heart Research Institute, Polk Education Foundation and business partners Polk Museum of Art, Polk Arts Alliance, Polk County Schools, and The Tax Collector’s Office for Polk County, who hosts the program each year.

The list of Award of Distinction honorees represents the top two designs from each school. To order one of the tags, go to www.PolkTaxes.com and click on the Kids Tag Art button. For more information, call the Polk County Tax Collector’s Office at (863) 534-4725.
