Bartow Historic Cemetery Tours

Evergreen Cemetery signJoin Polk County History Center staff on alternating tours of Oak Hill Cemetery, and the Evergreen and Palm Cemeteries. They serve as the earliest cemeteries in Bartow, and each site is home to pioneering families and legendary leaders. Tours are scheduled in advance. Oak Hill Cemetery is featured in January, March, October and December. Evergreen and Palm Cemeteries are featured in February, April and November. The cemetery tours take place on the first Saturday of the month at 11am. Please call the History Center at 863-534-4386 for additional information.

Oak Hill Cemetery Tours: January, March, October, December Tours, first Saturdays, 11am-12pm. Oak Hill Cemetery was founded in 1848 and added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2003. The tour starts with a short walk, from the History Center, of approximately one mile to include historic landmarks along the route. The cemetery ground is uneven; therefore, visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear.

Palm Cemetery signEvergreen & Palm Cemetery Tours: February, April and November Tours, first Saturdays, 11am-12pm. Designated a Polk County Heritage Site by the Polk County Historical Commission in 2022, the Evergreen & Palm Cemetery anchors the legacies of the Black pioneers in Polk County who endured enslavement, promoted agriculture, and served our nation across several military engagements. Tour participants must enter the cemetery via Highway 60 West, just past the intersection of Baker Ave. and West Main St. The cemetery is adjacent to Thunder Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, at 1425 W. Main St., Bartow, Florida 33830. A curator will be on site to provide directions for parking. The cemetery ground is uneven, so visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear.
