Explorations V Children’s Museum, located at 109 North Kentucky Avenue in downtown Lakeland, has announced a special Magical Monday session to be held on February 17, 2014 at 10:30a.m. The session will feature, Ken Lawson, Secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, reading a children’s e-book, Follow Your Dreams in Florida, You Can Be Anything You Want to Be! focusing on encouraging children to explore their dreams of what they want to be when they grow up.
A description of the book as per the DBPR is as follows: “In an effort to encourage Florida’s students follow their dreams and illustrate that they can be anything they want to be when they grow up in Florida, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation published this e-book for elementary-aged students. In addition to explaining all of the possible jobs there are, the book also communicates the importance of verifying professional and business licenses, as well as how to report unlicensed activity. Follow your dreams in Florida. You can be anything you want to be!”
In 2013 the DBPR set out to write the book and held illustration contests in schools throughout Florida to adorn the pages of the finished product. According to the DBPR website they “hope that this book inspires children to shoot for the stars to become what they want to be in Florida when they grow up.”
Magical Monday activities are included with admission, which is $7 per person. Senior Citizens are 65 + are $3.50. Teachers and military with ID are $3.50. Children under two are free. Museum admission is free to members. Annual Family Memberships may be purchased for $70. Explorations V Children’s Museum, a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is located in downtown Lakeland in the historic S.H. Kress Building. Three floors of mind stretching, kid-powered exhibits and programs provide a hands-on, fun-filled adventure in learning for children and their families. Hours are Monday – Saturday, 9am to 5:30pm.
