Journey through Polk history this month at the Polk County History Center.
Family FunDay is 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 11. Families celebrate Polk County’s citrus heritage with a citrus-themed craft.
The History Center is also hosting a special Family FunDay at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 in celebration of the dedication of the Citrus Heritage Exhibit at Circle B Bar Reserve, 4399 Winter Lake Road, Lakeland. Activities include tours, booths, orange juicing and more.
The monthly Lunch and Learn Series lecture is Tuesday, Jan. 21, 12:15 to 1 p.m. Dr. Steve Knoll continues with Part 2 of his “Florida Through Transportation” series.
Noll is an author and senior lecturer in the Department of History at UF. His most recent book (co-authored with David Tegeder) “Ditch of Dreams” focuses on the long, strange history of the ill-fated Cross-Florida Barge Canal. The book won the 2010 Rembert Patrick Prize from the Florida Historical Society for the best book in Florida history.
The History Center’s newest Civil War exhibits remain on view through April 2015 to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
