Experience the legacy of former slave Lawrence Brown who became a self-taught, highly successful business leader.
The Historic L.B. Brown House is owned and operated by the Neighborhood Improvement Corporation of Bartow, Inc (NIC), a nonprofit tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation. Built in 1892 by Lawrence Bernard Brown, this two-story home is built on 18 tree logs that are over 115 years old. Restoration of the main house was completed in 2001.
The annual L.B. Brown Heritage Festival is held during the second weekend in February. Mr. Brown’s personal papers and artifacts are maintained at the home. The ongoing operation is funded by donations.
