Gabriela Gonzalez Dellosso is a premier portrait artist whose art historical knowledge is surpassed only by the skill of her brushwork. Historian and author, Peggy MacDonald will present Florida’s Female Pioneers, examining some of the women who have shaped Florida, including Dr. Esther Hill Hawks, a physician who ran the first racially integrated free school in Florida; Harriet Beecher Stowe, famous for writing Uncle Tom’s Cabin and also Palmetto Leaves; and May Mann Jennings, a suffragist and conservationist who helped establish Royal Palm State Park, which formed the nucleus of Everglades National Park. *Registration opens January 2nd at whplprograms.eventbrite.com

On the first Saturday of each month from November through April, join Polk County History Center for a tour of Oak Hill Cemetery in Bartow. Learn about the pioneer families and war veterans interred at the cemetery.  The cemetery ground is uneven and visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear. Meet at the History Center for the one-mile walk to the cemetery.
