Harrison School for the Arts is proud to host the Lakeland Sister Cities International “Young Artists and Authors Showcase” on February 10th at 6:00 p.m. There will be a reception from 6 to 7 p.m. in the main rotunda in front of the art gallery. An awards presentation will also take place and entries will be displayed in the art gallery at Harrison School for the Arts. Artists and authors, ages 13-18 from Lakeland-area schools have been invited to submit work. This year’s theme, “One World: Out of Many, We are One” asks students to explore the theme, highlighting the importance of citizen diplomacy and the innovative ways citizen diplomats achieve peace through people-to-people interaction. This is a free event and open to the public. Harrison School for the Arts is located at 750 Hollingsworth Road, Lakeland, FL 33801.
Harrison School for the Arts has been hosting this show for the past several years in partnership with Lakeland Sister Cities International. First place winners in the local Young Artists and Young Authors competitions are entered in the national “Sister Cities” art and authors competitions. Lakeland Sister Cities welcomes organizations and individuals willing to share their skills, talents, training and resources to make a difference in a rapidly changing and interdependent world!
Lakeland Sister Cities International is a chapter of Sister Cities International. Lakeland Sister Cities International has a mission to develop relationships with people and cities of similar interests to Lakeland. This unique program encourages cultural and educational exchanges, business opportunities and increased tourism by encouraging direct personal and professional relationships at the grass roots level. To accomplish its mission the organization depends on volunteers who actively participate in a variety of activities, including hosting international visitors. Lakeland Sister Cities International was formed in 1990 with a relationship between our community and Richmond Hill, Canada. Since then relationships have been established with Imabari, Japan; Balti, Moldova; Chongming, China and Portmore, Jamaica. These cities were chosen through direct ties with Lakeland citizens, the interests and commitment by a core group of individuals from both cities and the rich mutual interests for cultural exchanges.
