Democratic Dialogues – Democracy in Florida: A Work in Progress
August 18 @ 12:15 pm - 1:00 pmFree
Democratic Dialogues Speaker Series
In this virtual presentation by Master Lecturer Steven Noll, University of Florida, learn about the history of democracy in Florida and the future of politics in our state.
When American revolutionaries waged a war for independence they took a leap of faith that sent ripple effects across generations. They embraced a radical idea of establishing a government that entrusted the power of the nation not in a monarchy, but in its citizens. That great leap sparked questions that continue to impact Floridians today: who has the right to vote, what are the freedoms and responsibilities of citizens, and whose voices will be heard? Democracy in Florida: A Work in Progress will examine these issues and how they are reflected in Florida history.
Noll received his Ph.D. in 1991 in American History from the University of Florida, his M.A. in 1985 from the University of Florida, his M.Ed. from the University of Florida in Special Education in 1976, and his B.A. in 1974 from the College of William and Mary. He joined the University Of Florida Department Of History in 1992.
