Book Banter: Politics at Play – Virtual Presentation
August 27, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Love to babble about books? Feel the need to chatter about chapters? We have the solution: join our monthly book club now offered in virtual format! Each month during the 2020 election year, we will be reading books about major topics in our country’s history and in current events.
The featured book for August is ““The Freedom Writer’s Diary.” The Freedom Writers Diary is a non-fiction 1999 book written by The Freedom Writers, a group of students from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California, and their teacher Erin Gruwell. Inspired to become a teacher after witnessing the Rodney King riots, Erin Gruwell unites a group of students that had been written off to be passionate about education, reading, and ending the cycle of violence.
Contact Laura Ramsey Kennedy at the Polk County History Center (863) 534-4381 to learn how you can participate.
